Two Muslim groups, the Ghana Muslim Broadcast Journalist Association and the Northerners and Zongos Concern Youth Association Ghana [NAZCYAG], have finally broken its silence after a year of consultations and observation on the creation of the Inner City and Zongo Development Ministry, by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Vice President Dr. Mahamoud Bawumia.
In a joint statement issued by the Association and signed by a veteran Hausa Broadcast Journalist, Alhaji Halidu Abubakar Galaxy sighted by the media stated that the creation of the Zongo Ministry and the appointment of Dr. Mahamud Bawumia as the vice President have raised and project the image of all Zongo communities in the country.
The Inner City and Zongo Development Ministry, he said will improve the lives and living standards of people within the Zongo communities and as well help reduce poverty and develop the talents in the Zongo youth in the area of football and other sporting disciplines.
He added that the Ministry has started its work by cutting sod for the construction of Astroturf and has outlined initiatives that will help the Zongo communities in diverse ways, adding that it is in the right direction.
Alhaji Galaxy revealed that upon the association’s one year of observation on the creation of the Inner City and Zongo Development Ministry, the associations have taking it upon it selves to use their platforms to promote and project the Ministry and Dr. Bawumia as well as educate the people within the Zongo communities on the need to support the agenda of the President Nana Addo, Dr. Bawumia and the Ministry to achieve its goals of taking Zongo communities to a higher level.
The coordinator of the Groups stated that the leaderships of the various Muslim Groups have at every opportunity praised the good policies in the Country with the specific reference to the creation of the Inner City and Zongo Development Ministry; Free Senior High School, One District Factory and among other policies by the NPP government.
The groups he said have saluted the NPP government for showing much concern to the people of Zongo by creating a whole Ministry to steer the affairs of the Inner City and Zongos.
As a campaign promise, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) said it would assist Zongos – a predominantly Muslim settlement – with the setting up of a Zongo Development Fund to give such communities a face-lift.
In line with this, President Akufo-Addo announced the creation of the Ministry for Inner City and Zongo Development at the Flagstaff House in Accra on Thursday January 12, 2017 and appointed Hon. Boniface Abubakar Saddique, as the sector Minister.
